Job Purpose
Retention and Graduation Specialist will lead retention initiatives and outreach to at-risk student populations in efforts to retain and graduate students at higher rates in alignment with the institutional strategic plan. This includes a high level of collaboration between various campus constituents and strong advocacy for student needs.
Minimum Requirements
A bachelor's degree and 1-2 years of experience with student support services in a higher education setting is required. Master's degree preferred. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of student development theory and understanding best practices in higher education for retention, student success, and degree attainment required. Must be familiar with Microsoft Programs (Outlook Calendar, Word, Excel, Power Point, and Publisher) and willing and able to learn other database systems, including INB Banner, Advise CRM, Maxient and Appointment Manager. Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the general public in a complex and fast-paced working environment. Ability to take initiative and demonstrate resourcefulness. Knowledge of College and State policies, procedures, and practices desired. Discretion and knowledge of FERPA regulations essential.
Additional Comments Regarding Position
May be required to work early mornings, evenings, or weekends. Some overnight travel may be required.

Collect, analyze and monitor at-risk student data in order to conduct appropriate outreach for proactive early interventions. Assist students in developing a graduation progression plan and accessing campus support resources to facilitate the completion of their degree program in a timely manner. Develop approaches that will assist academic departments in identifying and correcting departmental challenges to degree completion.

Serve as the liaison between CAPP and the Registrar's Office. Meet with students and facilitate requests to RO. Will be the primary point of contact for students interested in the academic forgiveness Three-Year Option upon re-entry to the institution. Will advise probation and suspension students on coursework elsewhere process.

Activity
Manages Early Alert measures and strategies implemented by the department. This includes managing the 'Faculty/Staff Assisting Students in Trouble' (F.A.S.T.) program. Investigates, addresses &/or delegates referrals from faculty/staff related to academic concerns. Advises faculty/staff on matters relating to the F.A.S.T. program.

Supports the STEP program including recruiting and counseling students, parents/guardians on their eligibility. Participates in departmental workflow associated with end of term review of academic standards for students actively participating in STEP.

Coordinates support for students interested in the LWP process and advises appropriately on eligibility, process and timeline. Identify students through outreach efforts that may be eligible for Late Withdrawal Petition. Meet with students and provide support to LWP Committee and Associate Director, Retention Initiatives.

Assists in the design, development and implementation of departmental strategic plans; recommends changes in policies and procedures to improve effectiveness of programs and services. Develops and conducts a variety of presentations for campus constituents related to academic standards and policies, early alert measures and strategies related to academic success and improved well-being. Works to ensure the Center for Academic Performance and Persistence team is supporting the goals of the Office for Student Success and the goals and strategies of the College of Charleston Strategic Plan. Ensures conformance with FERPA and other federal, state and institutional guidelines.
