Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Music, Music Performance, Music Education, Conducting, Education, or related field. Four years of demonstrated success and experience directing or assisting in the direction, recruitment, and development of a marching band, pep band, drum corps, drum line, concert band, wind ensemble, jazz band, or equivalent at the secondary or college level. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Experience directing or assisting in the direction, administration and/or development of a Division I collegiate marching, pep and athletic band program. Documented commitment to a student-centered pedagogy. Experience arranging music for pep band, specifically men's basketball. Previous experience working with a diverse student body. Experience in student leadership development.

The Director is responsible for show conceptualization, design, instruction and execution including but not limited to visual arts, integration of Spirit Groups (dance team, cheerleaders, mascot, student group performers, etc) for pre-game, halftime and post game performances for pep band as well as for non-athletic special events.

The Director will collaborate with Athletics Marketing to incorporate fan-engaging elements through the athletic event (pump-up/energetic songs, cheers/chants).

The Director is responsible for all basic, intermediate and advanced skill development and instruction required for high-level pep band performance. The Director will lead the coordination of band rehearsals and the sound execution of performances. The Director will coordinate efforts and band performances which involve outreach to the local and regional community.

The Director is responsible for managing the operating budget for the pep band, including budgeting for student stipends, equipment, maintenance, uniforms, etc. It is expected the Director follow all school purchasing policies. In addition, the director is responsible for soliciting donations and fundraising efforts for the pep band's fundraising account in order to enhance the student band member experience.

The Director is responsible for all marketing and recruitment strategies in order to continue to maintain the size and quality of the band as well as to further position the program to regional and national success. This requires collaborating with College admissions & marketing, and establishing, maintaining professional relationships within the college community and with local school districts.

The Director plays a leading role in the important function of advising various leadership and student groups within the band. The Director also advises and mentors students on personal, academic and professional issues and serves as a resource and referral agent.

The Director will coordinate plans and performances which involve travel to post-season tournaments. This will include assisting in the selection of student performers, working with tournament officials and producers, athletic marketing staff and peer band programs from other institutions as well as helping to coordinate travel plans.

The Director is responsible for a range of administrative duties including but not limited to supervisory administrative duties (i.e. to staff evaluation, staff scheduling, approving hours), financial administrative duties (i.e. reconciling procurement card expenditures), performance and travel-related administrative duties (i.e. reserving field space, equipment inventory) and recruitment and marketing administrative duties (monitoring recruitment database, responding to student-interest inquiries, developing outreach plan) and other administrative duties as assigned.
