Job Purpose

Property Management Accountant is responsible for oversight, management, and inventory of College of Charleston Foundation owned property, including Stono Preserve, study abroad residences in Trujillo Spain, buildings / parking lots in Charleston, artifacts and collections, sailboats, and a wide range of additional assets that support key programs of the College of Charleston. This position will work closely with outsourced property managers, contractors, attorneys, and architects, along with the College of Charleston Facilities Management and Auxiliary Services divisions, to ensure all assets are maintained in good quality operating condition and used in manner consistent with applicable donor restrictions and municipal regulations. This position will also be responsible for accounting duties as assigned to aid in the monthly close process. Accounting responsibilities will include assisting the team with Accounts Payable processing, fixed asset tracking, asset acquisition and disposition journal entries, depreciation calculations, lease management responsibilities, and additional accounting or administrative responsibilities as required. This position will also engage with third party auditors and field questions and requests for support as required.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelors degree required, preferably in accounting, business administration, or real
estate. Must have five years successful experience in working in Accounting or Real
Estate / Property management. Must understand and be comfortable with general
business practices with emphasis on non-profit organization and framework. Valid SC
driver’s license is required. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Must be able to use Microsoft Office tools such as Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.
Must have polished presentation and relationship skills. Must have ability to work with
Foundation Board members, campus constituents, and donors. Must understand and
be comfortable working with contractors, planners, insurance carriers, and regulatory
authorities as they pertain to real estate, accounting, and other property management. Must also
understand and be comfortable with Auditors as it relates to the accounting.

Additional Comments Regarding Position

Must be physically capable of traversing rough terrain, climbing stairs, and will be
required to use personal vehicle to travel between properties.

*This position may be eligible for part-time telecommuting.

Activity

Oversees planning and execution of Property Management for all property owned by the Foundation on an individual basis. Coordinates with the College of Charleston Facilities Management team, Auxiliary Services team, other campus constituents, outsourced property managers, attorney, architects, and contractors for the maintenance and repair of Foundation property. The position will ensure compliance with safety regulations, tax compliance / regulations, insurance requirements, and State policies. 

Responsible for oversight, management, and annual inventory of College of Charleston Foundation owned property, including Stono Preserve, study abroad residences in Trujillo Spain, buildings / parking lots in Charleston, artifacts and collections, sailboats, and a wide range of additional assets that support key programs of the College of Charleston. This role will serve as the Foundation’s liaison to the Lowcountry Open Land Trust, Historic Charleston Foundation, Charleston County Greenbelt program, lessees/lessors, vendors, and other external partnerships. Works with the Finance Director of College of Charleston Foundation and College of Charleston Foundation Property Committee Chair to support the planning, orchestration, and recording Board Property Committee meetings. Additional Property responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

Activity

Administers accounting processes such as certain monthly close processes, Accounts Payable processing, rent journal entries, asset acquisition and disposition journal entries, depreciation calculations, and additional accounting responsibilities as assigned. The position will also perform annual inventory counts and be responsible for tracking all Foundation owned assets to ensure all are maintained in quality condition, in manner consistent with applicable donor restrictions and municipal requirements. The position will be responsible for maintaining annual inventory records, which will be routinely updated and improved to better track Foundation owned assets. This position will also engage with third party auditors and field questions and requests for support as required.
