Job Purpose

The Director of Recruitment & Selection develops, manages, and implements initiatives relating to the recruitment and admission of domestic degree-seeking undergraduate students.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of prior admissions or related student services experience is required. Master’s Degree is preferred. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

The Director of Recruitment & Selection must have excellent communication, organization, and customer service skills. The individual must have the proven ability to supervise, train, coach and evaluate personnel. The Director must be articulate and knowledgeable regarding the college’s academic position as a competitive liberal arts and science institution. The Director must have experience with admission and higher education software and technology, particularly with a CRM system. The Director must be able to establish and review policies and procedures relating to admissions and recruitment. The individual must understand domestic secondary school curriculum, secondary school counseling procedures, college selection process and an ability to work with diverse student populations is necessary. The Director must be able to work cooperatively with other staff members and the college community. Must be knowledgeable of the techniques, procedures, and principles of forecasting enrollment trends, evaluating the success of recruitment activities, ensuring the successful completion, review, and selection process of more than 30,000 undergraduate applications.

Additional Comments Regarding Position

The Director of Recruitment & Selection must be able to successfully establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external constituents. Must be able to travel outside of the Charleston area frequently (including out of state travel). Evening and weekend work is required. The ability to lift and carry 30-40 lbs. is necessary. Must be able to work on a second or third level without elevator access.

Manages and directs the recruitment staff, their travel of the staff and coordinates admission’s representation at college fairs and other events. Manages the assignment of staff recruitment territories. Implements recruitment strategies that involve developing plans and goals for high school visits, college fairs, informal interviews and school counselor events and communication. Oversees follow-up with various constituencies (school and college counselors, community-based organizations, etc.) and prospective students and their parents by the territory managers to meet enrollment goals.

Activity

Directs the evaluation and competitive selection process for degree-seeking first-year and transfer students. Interprets institutional policy and, with the Dean of Undergraduate Admissions, establishes effective admissions policies and procedures with a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Counsels and advises prospective students on admissions policy, financial aid, and curriculum choices. Maintains effective relationships with appropriate entities for contacting and developing relationships with students and secondary schools. Working with the Dean of Undergraduate Admissions, assists with the development of long-range plans and objectives for recruitment initiatives and degree-seeking enrollment projections. Develops and implements new policies and procedures that ensure College and South Carolina compliance while enhancing recruitment efforts.

Continuously train and develop admissions staff involved in the selection process to ensure consistent and unbiased evaluation. Provide regular training and updates to recruitment team on brand messaging that reflects the College’s strategic plan and institutional priorities.

Supports the recruitment process by personally traveling to, reviewing evaluating and rendering decisions on admission applicants, from an assigned territory by the Dean of Undergraduate Admissions. Travel as necessary for off-campus recruitment events (including yield events in the spring).

Manages and leads strategies related to policies and programming for school and independent counselors. Manages goals and plans for school counselor and community-based communication and programming. Ensures effective communication plans are developed, implemented, and evaluated for these programs and events. Maintains and manages program budgeting.
