Job Purpose

A successful Lead Annual Gift Officer will be a proactive and collaborative member of this dynamic advancement team and a champion for the College’s highest funding priorities.. The Lead Annual Gift Officer develops and manages a portfolio of annual leadership to mid-range capacity prospects. The work with donors is expected to be personal in nature with an emphasis on face-to-face visits. This position is critical for ensuring the stabilization of annual leadership donations to build the major gift pipeline.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of related experience in alumni/development activities that demonstrate leadership and accomplishment in moves management, gift solicitation and closes at $2,500- $25,000. Strong organizational capabilities are required as is demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively with many constituencies and partners in a university or non-profit setting. Willingness to travel is essential. Other important characteristics include a strong work ethic, personal integrity, excellent communication, the ability to prioritize projects and support a collaborative approach to development and fundraising planning. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills. Must be able to work on several projects concurrently while meeting deadlines. Analytical skills are required. Ability to develop solicitation strategies in support of the College’s unrestricted funds is required. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Requires a high energy level, ambition and an orientation to action, the ability to inspire and energize others. Excellent people skills, effective communication skills, oral and written, and demonstrated commitment to extraordinary customer service. Experience using Microsoft Office suite of software and Experience with Raiser’s Edge, or Banner software is desirable. Must be able to plan and think strategically with the College’s mission in mind.

Additional Comments Regarding Position

Weekend and evening work will be required. Regular overnight travel is expected.

*This position is hybrid work eligible (works remotely at least 1 day per week but not full time).

Portfolio Management: 

·      Manages the advancement of a dynamic portfolio of leadership annual gift prospects in all phases of qualification, cultivation, and solicitation. 

·      Coordinates customized solicitation strategies in collaboration with strategic internal partners to include Advancement Services; University Events, Communications and Donor Relations and Alumni Affairs; to increase gifts to the College’s unrestricted funds. 

·      Plans and executes trips to engage prospective donors face-to-face. When possible, travel is in collaboration with Alumni Affairs, Athletics and Admissions regional engagement opportunities.

Pipeline Support:  

·      Participates in pipeline development by documenting all prospect moves management actions, proposals and statuses within Raiser’s Edge NXT.

·       When appropriate, refers qualified prospects to Director of Prospect Research and Executive Director of Development for new assignment.

Development Team:

·       Maintains a productive and collaborative working relationship with Institutional Advancement colleagues and campus partners where cooperation is essential to effective Development programs.  

·       Assists with special events and represents the College of Charleston to advance internal and external partnerships. Represents the College and Development Office at both on- and off-campus events.  

·       Participates in preparation of Institutional Advancement’s quarterly and fiscal year workplans.
