Job Purpose

The Director of Equipment Operations orders, maintains and inventories athletic equipment and for all sports at the College of Charleston. The director also maintains the department equipment/gear budget and distributes equipment within university, state, and NCAA guidelines. The director works with all athletic programs and department administrators to ensure that all student-athletes are properly equipped for practice and athletic competition.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree (with preference towards study in sports management, facilities management, sports administration or other closely related field). 2-3 years experience in equipment management, facilities management, or sports management (with preference towards equipment-specific experience in DI athletics), which can include internship or team manager experience. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of inventory control principles and methods and related risk management standards and practices. Familiarity with basic NCAA rules & regulations with preference to those fluent in NCAA rules and regulations related to equipment. Experience working with third-party vendors. Ability to act in a professional manner with a diverse group of staff and student-athletes in a service-oriented environment. Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize competing interests with limited funds.

Additional Comments Regarding Position

This position is the first of its kind at the College, so there is flexibility for the director to create his or her own equipment program – initiative and vision are expected. This position will also have some event/game management responsibilities.

Coordinates with athletic programs (coaching staffs) and administration to effectively order, store, and distribute equipment and apparel, within given budgets, ensuring compliance with safety, university, federal and NCAA guidelines. Ensures timeliness of orders, printing/embroidery, and final delivery. Accepts and distributes incoming equipment and gear orders. Ensures adherence to brand standards. Facilitates equipment repairs and replacements. Works with department administration to create a baseline apparel program for student-athletes and administrative staff.

Ensure that orders are received, inventoried, and closed out properly. Troubleshoot issues with equipment and apparel vendors. Seek cost saving measures when possible and appropriate.
