Job Purpose |
The Transfer Admissions Counselor is responsible for recruiting undergraduate transfer students and reviewing their applications for admission, with a focus on in-state transfer students from the SC Technical College system and 2-year institutions.
Acts as knowledgeable/expert resource for inquiries from various sources regarding the admissions process for transfer students at the College of Charleston. |
Minimum Requirements |
Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree and professional work experience in higher education preferred but not required. Required to have a SC driver’s license (or the ability to obtain one). Candidates with an equivalent combination
of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply. |
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities |
Requires strong organizational and communication skills, as well as the ability to represent the institution professionally with a wide range of individuals, including prospective students, colleagues, staff, faculty, and parents. Must
be detail oriented and be able to manage multiple deadlines and a high volume workload. Knowledge of best practices in transfer admissions and FERPA regulations helpful. Salesforce/TargetX experience is desirable. Should be highly
functional with Microsoft Office, basic databases, and electronic file transfer. Must possess excellent written and oral communication abilities, and exhibit strong interpersonal skills. |
Additional Comments Regarding Position |
May be required to work early mornings, evenings, or weekends. Some overnight travel may be required. |

Represents the College to prospective undergraduate transfer students by providing accurate, timely, and relevant pre-transfer advising that informs decision-making on matriculation and academic planning in pursuit of degree completion.
Meets with students individually and in small groups or provides pre-transfer advising by phone or in online space to explain transfer credit evaluations and advise about program of study options. Advocates for prospective College of Charleston students in
the areas of transfer admissions, transfer credit evaluations, academic planning, and timely degree completion. Interprets and communicates policies to prospective and current transfer students, faculty, staff, and administrators at the College. Makes referrals
to other campus resources based on assessment of individual student needs, academic goals, and time to degree. |
