Job Purpose

The Assistant Director of Leadership and Fraternity & Sorority Life’s primary job purpose is to assist in the development and planning of comprehensive leadership programming. Meets regularly with a fraternity or sorority council and assists members of these groups with the development of programs, services, and resources intended for use by the council and its member organizations.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree required as well as previous experience in a college or university setting. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Experience giving presentations and speaking to various audiences required. Have knowledge of current trends and practices in leadership development and programs. Have knowledge of Fraternity & Sorority Life related topics, principles, policies, and practices. Must be able to prioritize plan and organize work and tasks to meet goals and deadlines. Ability to train others as needed, be courteous and deal effectively with other personnel as well as the public is essential. Must have the ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion in interpreting and applying policies and procedures. Ability to work autonomously with limited supervision. Ability to work and maintain focus in a fast-paced, high-energy environment.

Additional Comments Regarding Position

Frequent oversight or participation in weekend and evening educational activities. Could have flexible working hours during the academic year as determined with supervisor. Occasional overnight travel to professional conferences.

Leadership Development: Develop and implement comprehensive leadership development programs. I.e. Cougar Excursion, LeaderShape, Facilitate workshops, trainings, and retreats to enhance leadership skills, promote ethical decision-making, and encourage personal growth with direction from the Associate Director of Student Leadership. Fraternity/Sorority Advising: Directly Advise one fraternity or sorority council and council in all areas, including recruitment processes, budgeting, event planning, risk management and judiciary processes. Works with student members, campus, local and national advisors, (inter)national organizations to push chapters to meet and/or exceed the standards of behavior and excellence expected by the institution, local chapters, and national Greek letter organizations. Advises chapter presidents; engages in organizational development plans with chapter officers with an emphasis on continuous quality improvement.

Program Management: Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of leadership and fraternity and sorority events and programs, including Philanthropic initiatives, and educational workshops. Collaborate with campus partners to ensure successful execution of events. Develop and implement marketing plans and materials for programs.

Responsible for the advisement of Charleston Miracle student organization in conjunction with the MUSC liaison. Work with students and MUSC Representative to coordinate one large-scale fundraising event for CofC students in support of MUSC Children’s Hospital.
