Cougars Visit CAA Leader William & Mary on Sunday

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Two teams off to hot starts in CAA play meet on Sunday in Williamsburg, Va., when College of Charleston takes on William & Mary. Kickoff at Martin Family Stadium is at noon.

The Cougars have defeated Delaware and Hampton in their past two conference games and are tied for second in the CAA with six points. Charleston, Drexel and Elon are all one point behind the Tribe, which is 2-0-1 with a tie against Stony Brook followed by wins over Hofstra and UNCW.

Grace Powell, Faith Slimmer and Hope Slimmer each scored goals in Thursday’s 3-0 home victory over Hampton. Powell’s seventh goal of the season put her into a tie for second in the CAA, and she is also tied for first with three game-winning goals and tied for third with 16 points.

Faith Slimmer is first on the team and tied for fourth in the league with five assists. With her 45 shutout minutes against Hampton, Savannah Barron lowered her goals against average to 1.07 and helped the Charleston defense post its six shutout of the season.

The Tribe is led by Ivey Crain with seven goals, including all three against Stony Brook and Hofstra, and Kayleigh Shackford has five assists. Zoe Doughty is second in the CAA with six solo shutouts while also ranking fifth with an 0.95 goals against average and fourth with an .818 save percentage.

William & Mary holds a 5-1-3 lead in the all-time series, with each meeting coming since the Cougars joined the CAA in 2013. The Tribe won in overtime, 1-0, a year ago at Patriots Point.
