White Provides Offensive Spark in Win Over UIW
MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – Ezra White had his first career goal
and assist to keep College of Charleston undefeated at home with a 2-0 win over Incarnate Word on Tuesday night.
The Cougars improved to 4-3-3 with four wins and a tie at Ralph Lundy Field at Patriots Point. Olly Marshall recorded his second shutout of the season and made five
saves in lowering his goals against average to 1.50.
Charleston struck early Rio Murray scored his sixth career goal in the fourth minute, with assists going to White and Tom Wilson. It appeared to be a one-score game
heading into halftime, but White took a feed from Eneko Sancho and found the back of the net with just seven seconds left on the clock.
The Cougar defense made it stand up, with Marshall making four of his saves in the second half including a spectacular leaping stop to his right to keep the Cardinals
off the board. Charleston has allowed only three goals in its five home matches and went 2-0-1 on its just completed three-game homestand.
The Cougars held a 15-9 advantage in shots, with Murray leading the way with four and Kane Ritchie adding three. Charleston also earned 10 corner kicks.
The Cougars are back on the road in CAA play on Saturday with a noon game at Stony Brook. After that trip it’s back home for two more matches, beginning with a date
against NC State next Tuesday at 7 p.m.
