Elliott, Bauer Lift Cougars to Draw with Tribe

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – Chris Elliott continued a torrid scoring stretch, and Justin Bauer was equal to the William & Mary offensive attack in College of Charleston’s 2-2 draw with William & Mary on Sunday.

Elliott scored his sixth and seventh goals of the season in the second half to help the Cougars wipe out a 2-0 deficit. The freshman has four goals in his past two games, including a brace against UNC Asheville, and took over sole possession of the lead in the CAA in that category.

Leonardo D’Ambrosio assisted on both goals to increase his season total to five, moving him past Chris Matlashewski for first on the team and into a tie for second in the conference. Elliott is tied for first in the CAA with 15 points, and D’Ambrosio is sixth with 11.

Bauer made his second straight start and overcame a two-goal first half to stymie the Tribe over the final 45 minutes. He faced 15 shots in the second half and made six saves, several of the spectacular variety from point blank range, to give Charleston the chance to rally. Bauer finished with a total of seven saves.

“The guys had the resilience to battle back from two goals down,” said head coach Keith Wiggans. “William & Mary is a good team. Every point is valuable in conference, and it is important to earn a point when you didn’t play your best.”

With the tie, the Cougars remained tied with the Tribe with eight points on the strength of 2-1-2 records in the CAA. The teams trail Elon (12 points), UNCW (11) and Hofstra (10) as the race for postseason berths begins to take shape. The top six teams at the end of the regular season advance to the CAA Tournament.
