Cougars Host Northeastern on Senior Day

CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston plays host to Northeastern on Saturday at noon in a game that has major CAA postseason implications.

The Cougars enter the game with a 2-2-2 record in the CAA and are in sixth place with eight points, one ahead of the Huskies (2-3-1). Hofstra and Elon are tied for first (13), followed by UNCW (11), Drexel (10) and William & Mary (9).

There are three games left in the regular season for all nine teams. The top six advance to the tournament, which begins November 3 on campus sites.

Prior to Saturday’s game, the Charleston men’s soccer program will honor six seniors whose careers will be coming to an end this season. The group includes Edin Aleckovic, Justin Bauer, Nick Burnz, Steven Cahill, Rio Murray and Cas Van Altena.

The Cougars are led offensively by Chris Elliott with seven goals and 15 points, ranking second in the CAA in both categories. Leonardo D’Ambrosio has five assists, one more than Chris Matlashewski, and a total of 11 points.

Olly Marshall recorded his third shutout of the season in a 0-0 draw against NC State on Tuesday and owns a 1.33 goals against average and .721 save percentage, the latter ranking fifth in the conference.

Federico Tellez and Ryan Massoud pace the Huskies with six points, with Tellez the team leader with three goals. Colby Hegarty has a 1.38 goals against average and .667 save percentage.

Northeastern holds a 5-3 lead in the series that dates back to the Cougars joining the CAA in 2013.
