Cougars Head to New York to Face Stony Brook 

 

CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston begins the homestretch of the 2022 campaign Saturday when the Cougars visit CAA newcomer Stony Brook in the first meeting between the two teams. 

 

Kickoff at LaValle Stadium is set for noon. The Cougars enter the match tied for fourth in the CAA with eight points (2-1-2) while the Seawolves are 1-4 and tied for eighth with three points.  

 

Charleston is tied with William & Mary in the CAA standings with the duo trailing Elon (12), UNCW (11) and Hofstra (8). Drexel and Northeastern are right behind with seven points in the race for playoff berths and seeding.  

 

The top six teams at the end of the regular season qualify for the CAA Tournament which begins with first round contests at campus sites on November 3. 

 

The Cougars (4-3-3 overall) are led by Chris Elliott, who is second in the conference with seven goals and 15 points. The freshman is the reigning CAA Offensive Player of the Week after scoring four goals in a win over UNC Asheville and draw with William & Mary last week. 

 

Leonardo D’Ambrosio is tied for second with five assists, one more than Chris Matlashewski, and is sixth with 11 points. Olly Marshall had his second shutout of the season in a 2-0 win over UIW and has a 1.50 goals against average and .700 save percentage. 

 

Jonas Bickus leads Stony Brook (3-7 overall) with three goals, and Moses Bakabulindi and Trausti Birgisson both have two. Chris Copenhaver has a 1.17 goals against average and .700 save percentage. 

 

Following Saturday’s game, the Cougars return home to host NC State on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
