Cougars Blank Hampton to Conclude Homestand
MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – Grace Powell and Faith Slimmer both had a goal and assist, and the College of Charleston
defense posted its sixth shutout of the season in a 3-0 win over Hampton on Thursday at Ralph Lundy Field at Patriots Point.
The Cougars (8-4, 2-1 CAA) outshot the Pirates, 26-3, and took nine corner kicks to finish 2-1 on their three-game homestand. Savannah Barron and Katie Carrino combined for the clean sheet
with both making one save.
Charleston broke out in front in the fifth minute when Powell scored her team-leading seventh goal of the year, assisted by Delaney Dawes. Eighteen minutes later Powell fed Slimmer, who scored
for the third time.
Slimmer assisted on the Cougars’ final goal in the 61st minute with sister Hope capitalizing for her first career tally. This marks the second time this season the siblings have combined
for a goal, with Hope assisting Faith in the opener against Alabama A&M.
Faith Slimmer increased her assist total to five to break a tie with Bubbles Dever for the team lead while also taking over second on the Cougars with 11 points, trailing only Powell’s 16.
The Cougars are scheduled to play at William & Mary on Sunday at noon, but that is subject to change based on the impact of Hurricane Ian on the Williamsburg area.
