COUGARS COMPLETE WEEKEND SWEEP OF SEAHAWKS

 

CHARLESTON, S.C. --- Sophomore Anna Smith put down a match-high 14 kills to pace College of Charleston to a straight-set sweep of UNCW on Sunday afternoon in CAA action.

 

Charleston (7-8, 2-0 CAA) won the match by scores of 25-18, 25-23 and 25-15 and dropped in nine service aces. The Cougars finished the match with 35 kills and nine blocks while holding UNCW (3-10, 1-3 CAA) to a .140 hitting percentage.

Critical Point

With UNCW holding a 22-20 advantage in the second set, the Cougars countered with five of the next six points to win the set, 25-23, and take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.

 

Key Cougars

• Smith paced the attack with 14 kills, hit .312 and narrowly missed a double-double with nine digs.
• Senior Logan Pope provided a key spark off the bench with five kills on eight swings without an error.
• Emma Falk and Claire Campbell chipped in five and four blocks, respectively.
• Jasmin Goei dished out 16 assists to go along with five digs and two aces.

 

Match Notes

• With the victory, Charleston opened CAA play with back-to-back wins for the first time since 2018.
• Freshman Avery Alexander established a new season-high with three aces – all in the third set.
• The win marks the Cougars’ fifth sweep of the season.

 

Up Next

The Cougars return home next weekend to host Delaware in league action on Saturday and Sunday in TD Arena. First serve for both matches is slated for 1:00 p.m.
