COUGARS PREPPED FOR FINAL WEEKEND OF NON-CONFERENCE PLAY

CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The College of Charleston volleyball team will be staying close to home for the final weekend of non-conference play on Friday and Saturday with the Cougars slated to take on Montana, Charleston Southern and UNC Greensboro at the CSU Chucktown Throwdown in North Charleston. Charleston will face Montana and CSU on Friday at 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., respectively, before wrapping up the weekend against UNCG on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

The Cougars are looking to break a three-match skid following back-to-back setbacks to Coastal Carolina and a loss to Wofford.

QUICK HITTERS


  *   Senior Claire Campbell has been tremendous thus far entering the weekend ranked 12th in the nation with a blistering .506 hitting percentage. The Raleigh, N.C. native has hit at least .300 in all but one appearance including four performances over .500.
  *   The Cougars have spread the offensive wealth quite effectively thus far with four players averaging at least two kills per set through 10 matches. Senior Gabi Bailey leads the pack with 3.19 kills per set while Lexi Wierzbicki is averaging 2.45 per frame. Anna Smith and Claire Campbell are each averaging 2.15 kills per set this season.
  *   A trio of freshmen stepped into big roles last weekend with the Cougars missing several players due to illness. Both Olivia Mae Van Der Werff and Avery Alexander slotted into the starting lineup for all three matches with Alexander finishing the weekend tied for the team-lead with 35 digs. Van Der Werff totaled 15 kills on the weekend while Bella Sinacori chipped in eight kills and four blocks.


SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS


  *   Montana is 5-4 on the season thus far after dropping back-to-back matches to UT Rio Grande Valley last weekend. The Grizzlies lead the Big Sky in aces per set (1.93) and rank second in opponent hitting percentage (.178). Paige Clark paces the Grizzlies averaging 3.86 kills per set while Carly Anderson is dishing out 9.93 assists per frame this season.
  *   Charleston Southern carries a 5-6 record into the weekend after edging The Citadel, 3-2, on Tuesday evening. The Bucs lead the nation in both total kills and total assists, and rank second in the Big South in kills per set (12.82). Peyton Thompson (3.86) paces four CSU players averaging more than two kills per set.
  *   UNC Greensboro enters the weekend with a 6-4 record after dropping two of three at Elon’s Aggie/Phoenix Volleyball for Unity. The Spartans lead the SoCon in opponent hitting percentage (.166) and rank third in both assists (11.69) and digs (15.00) per set. Taylor Robertson paces the attack averaging 3.26 kills per set while Elayne Grisbee leads the team with 31 blocks thus far.
