Cougars Fall at UAB in Season Opener
BIRMINGHAM, ALA. – College of Charleston turned in a strong defensive performance but came up short on
the offensive end in a 2-0 loss to UAB on Friday night at PNC Field.
The Cougars limited the Blazers to only 10 shots and just three on goal. UAB took advantage of two of those shots in the opening half when Nathaniel St. Louis scored in the sixth minute and
Brooks Rice followed 16 minutes later.
Damon Williams was a bright spot in the attack for the Cougars. The Akron transfer fired four shots, half of Charleston’s total, with two on target. Daniel Pereira, Leonardo D’Ambrosio, Chris
Matlashewski and Conner Walmsley also had shots.
Freshman Olly Marshall earned the start in goal and made one save in the full 90 minutes. Jack Hudson stopped two shots for the Blazers.
The Cougars wrap up play at the UAB Soccer for a Cure Classic on Sunday when they meet Memphis at 12:30. The Tigers defeated Queens, 5-0, in the opening game of the tournament.
