CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston opens its 2022 women’s soccer season Thursday night with a 7 p.m. game against Alabama A&M in the first-ever meeting between the two teams.

Admission to all Cougar soccer games at Ralph Lundy Field at Patriots Point is free. The game will be streamed on the Flosports (subscription required) and live stats will also be available. See above for links.

Following the game there will be a Meet the Coaches event on the field sponsored by the Charleston Athletic Fund.

The Cougars return nine field players who started 12 or more games a year ago. That group includes leading scorer Delaney Dawes, who tallied a team-high five goals and 11 points. Grace Powell and Natalie Sgro are back after putting in three goals in 2021.

Olivia Freitas (1 goal, team-high 4 assists) and Faith Slimmer (2 goals, 2 assists) joined Powell and Sgro for second place on the team with six points.

Charleston lost goalkeeper Meredith Holton, who started 17 of 18 games last year. Savannah Barron is back after playing in five contests last fall, and the team added Auburn transfer Katie Carrino.

Alabama A&M won 10 games last year and tied for the SWAC regular season title with an 8-1 league record. The Bulldogs return first team all-conference players Makayla Rushing (10 goals, 3 assists) and Taylor Watson and second team selection Sherice Clark (4 assists).
