SMITH INKS FREE AGENT DEAL WITH DIAMONDBACKS

 

PHOENIX --- College of Charleston junior Caswell Smith has signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks as an undrafted free agent following a three-year career at The College.

 

Smith made 14 appearances for the Cougars over the last three seasons, recording 30 strikeouts in 34.2 innings of work. The Ball Ground, Ga. native began his collegiate career in stellar fashion in 2020 posting a 3-0 record with a 1.35 ERA in four starts before the season was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

He was limited to only three appearances in a 2021 campaign cut short by injury working a total of nine innings and fanning six batters. Smith made seven appearances in his return to the diamond in 2022, working a total of 5.2 innings with four strikeouts.

 

Smith joins a group of seven former Cougars playing in professional baseball including a trio of right-handed pitchers – Taylor Clarke, Heath Hembree and Bailey Ober - on Major League Rosters.
