CHARLESTON, S.C. – The magic number for the Cougars is one.

College of Charleston needs one win at Delaware or one Drexel loss at home to UNCW to qualify for the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament.

The Cougars take on the league-leading Blue Hens in a Friday doubleheader at noon and a single game on Saturday at the same time. Charleston is 7-10 in CAA play while Drexel is 5-13 entering the final week of the regular season.

Delaware has an 11-4 CAA record (its series against James Madison was canceled), followed by Hofstra (11-6) and Elon and UNCW, both at 10-8. The Pride finishes its regular season with a series at Towson. The CAA Tournament takes place May 12-14 at Elon.

The Cougars put themselves in position to claim a spot in the five-team field with a sweep of Towson last weekend behind three stellar pitching performances. Carli McCants tossed two shutouts and struck out 14 to earn her second-straight CAA Pitcher of the Week award.

Payton Lemire limited the Tigers to one run and five hits to lead Charleston to a win in the middle game. Mia Dittoe was the hitting star, blasting a two-run homer in a 2-0 win in game one and driving in the lone run in the finale with a sacrifice fly.

McCants (2.23) and Lemire (2.59) rank fifth and sixth, respectively, in the CAA in ERA. McCants is also fourth in strikeouts (103), innings pitched (116.1) and opponent batting average (.226).

Offensively, Dittoe has raised her season totals to four homers and 18 RBI, both second on the team to Jenna Helberg (.314, 11 doubles, 5 homers, 22 RBI). Jenna Carter is batting .318, and Noel Dominguez has upped her average to .254 on the strength of an eight-game hitting streak.

Delaware (28-14 overall) is led at the plate by Hanna Garber (.368, 8 homers, 27 RBI, 16 stolen bases) while Brooke Glanden leads the Blue Hens with nine homers and 38 RBI. Emily Winburn (12-8, 2.75 ERA, 108 strikeouts) and Graceyn Frost (13-4, 2.76 ERA, 97 strikeouts) pace the pitching staff.
