Lieger, Tallie Score in Pole Vault; Four Cougars Advance to Event Finals

BOSTON, MASS. – Luzy Lieger and Tonet Tallie finished in the top four in the pole vault, and four middle distance runners advanced to the Saturday finals on the first day of the CAA Track and Field Championships in Boston.

Lieger and Tallie both cleared 3.80m (12 feet, 5 ½) inches, but Lieger finished one spot ahead in third place on misses. It is the second time in as many years that Lieger has scored at the conference meet after taking second last season, while Tallie set a PR and moved into a tie for second in school history.

Three Cougars advanced to the finals in the 1500, a trio led by Rhian Purves who set a PR and moved up to third in the school record book with a time of 4:33.33. Cate Ambrose also had a career best in 4:33.55, and Kristen Cherry finished in 4:39.91 to join Purves in the finals.

Sophia Brown did not advance but did move into ninth place in Charleston annals with a mark of 4:43.51.

Emily Dorony jumped up from eighth to sixth in school history in the 800, crossing in 2:16.07 to move into the finals. Grace McGrew had a PR in the distance at 2:21.98.

Kaitlynn Bailey did not qualify for an event final but still turned in an outstanding day with three PRs. She climbed from ninth to sixth in the 400 (57.46), moved up one spot to a tie for sixth in the 200 (25.28) and lowered her PR in the 100 to 12.33 which keeps her third in the record book.

Alicia Wilson joined the record book in the 100, finishing in a 12.67 to tie for 10th.

The meet concludes on Saturday with Cougars competing in the finals of the 800, 1500, 5000, 400 hurdles, the 4x100 and 4x400 relay and the shot put and discus.
