CHARLESTON HEADS TO MARYLAND TO CLOSE OUT REGULAR SEASON

CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The College of Charleston baseball team travels to Maryland this weekend to take on Towson in its final CAA series of the spring to close out the regular season. First pitch for Thursday’s series opener is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at John B. Schuerholz Park.

Charleston has won 19 of its last 21 games and six straight after taking two against Charleston Southern and one from The Citadel to conclude its non-conference schedule. Towson has dropped three of its last five and eight of its last 10 entering the regular season’s final weekend.

SERIES SNAPSHOT
The Cougars lead the all-time series, 20-3, and have won nine of the last 10 meetings with the Tigers including the last four. Charleston defeated Towson, 6-5, in the CAA Tournament last season in Wilmington, N.C.

PROBABLE PITCHERS
Thursday | 3:00 pm ET: RHP Ty Good (9-4, 3.39) vs. RHP Jordan Peyton (0-0, 10.38)
Friday | 3:00 pm ET: RHP Trey Pooser (4-1, 3.88) vs. RHP Brett Seils (1-1, 7.66)
Saturday | 1:00 pm ET: RHP Emmett Bice (3-0, 2.30) vs. RHP Nick Janowicz (0-6, 8.34)

LEADING OFF

·         The Cougars have been rolling since early April winning 19 of their last 21 overall including 14 of the last 15 in CAA play to secure the program's second CAA regular season title.

·         Charleston's offense has been firing on all cylinders over the last 15 games scoring 131 runs and combining for a .313 batting average in that span. Joseph Mershon and Tyler Sorrentino lead the way in that span combining for 29 RBI and batting .392 and .355, respectively.

·         The quartet of Trotter Harlan, Sam Cochrane, JT Marr and Tyler Sorrentino have been absolutely lethal to this point in conference play combining for more than 57 percent of the Cougars' RBI in league play this season.

·         Sophomore William Privette has been lights out this season out of the bullpen currently leading the nation in ERA (0.69) while ranking fifth in hits allowed per nine innings (4.99), sixth in saves (12) and ninth in WHIP (0.84).

·         Joseph Mershon has been on a tear over the last 15 games batting .392 with two home runs and 12 RBI to raise his season batting average from .242 to .296. The junior second baseman delivered in a big way last weekend against Charleston Southern driving in six runs including four in a 3-for-4 effort on Sunday.

·         Reed Parris has carved out a key role as the Cougars' primary set-up man since transferring from Division II Mount Olive entering the weekend with a 5-0 record and a 2.45 ERA in 36.2 innings of work of the 'pen. The Kinston, N.C. native has issued only nine walks this season and sports a WHIP of 1.02.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS

·         Towson enters the weekend with a 12-38 overall record and a 2-18 mark in CAA play.

·         The Tigers rank fourth in the league in base on balls (216) and home runs (46).

·         Elijah Dickerson leads the team with 10 home runs, five triples and 42 RBI.

·         Jack McLaughlin sports a squad-best .324 batting average with seven home runs and 21 RBI.

·         Jack Pecilunas carries a 3.10 ERA with four saves in 22 appearances out of the bullpen.
