CHARLESTON AND CLEMSON TO SQUARE OFF TUESDAY AT SEGRA PARK

CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The College of Charleston baseball team will make the short trek up I-26 to Columbia, S.C. on Tuesday to square off against Palmetto State foe Clemson at Segra Park, home of the Columbia Fireflies, in the second of two meetings between the Cougars and Tigers this season. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

Charleston enters the week having won 15 of its last 17 including a series win over UNCW this past weekend in Wilmington, N.C. that saw the Cougars clinch the CAA regular season title. Clemson is coming off a weekend sweep of then-No. 21 Georgia Tech.

LEADING OFF

·         Charleston has put together a dominant performance in conference play so far this season, clinching its second CAA regular season championship in program history over the weekend. The Cougars are the first Division I school in a single-division conference to clinch the regular season title this season and have won the second-most CAA games (18) in school history.

·         Freshman outfielder Tyler Sorrentino paced the Cougars with a trio of two-hit games in the series win at UNCW to earn his second CAA Rookie of the Week honors of the season.

·         The quartet of Trotter Harlan, Sam Cochrane, JT Marr and Tyler Sorrentino have been absolutely lethal to this point in conference play combining for more than 57 percent of the Cougars' RBI in league play this season.

·         Charleston's pitching staff has been dominant over the last three weekends combining for a 1.69 ERA in a trio of series wins - including two sweeps - against Elon, Delaware and UNCW to climb to 16th in the nation in team ERA (3.77).

·         Sophomore William Privette has been lights out this season out of the bullpen currently ranking second in the nation in ERA (0.76), seventh in hits allowed per nine innings (5.32) and 13th in WHIP (0.89).

·         The Cougars have played their best baseball in the friendly confines of Patriots Point this season entering the weekend with the best record (23-5) through the first 28 home games in program history. The 2022 campaign marks the 22nd season with at least 20 home victories in school history.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS

·         The Tigers enter the week with a 31-17 overall record and a 9-14 mark in the ACC following a series sweep of then-No. 21 Georgia Tech last weekend.

·         Clemson carries a .285 team batting average with 84 home runs and a .492 team slugging percentage.

·         The Tigers ranked 12th in the nation in long balls and 20th in bases on balls (249).

·         Max Wagner leads the team and ranks fourth nationally with 22 home runs while also ranking seventh in RBI (63) and 34th in batting average (.390).

·         Tuesday’s starter Ricky Williams is 2-0 in seven appearances (two starts) with a 1.59 ERA and eight strikeouts in 17 innings of work.
