SORRENTINO SNAGS CAA CO-ROOKIE OF THE WEEK ACCOLADES

 

RICHMOND, Va. --- Freshman outfielder Tyler Sorrentino has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Co-Rookie of the Week after recording a trio of multi-hit games over the weekend to help College of Charleston take the series at UNCW and clinch the CAA Regular Season Championship announced league officials Monday.

 

This marks the second weekly award of the season for Sorrentino who batted .462 (6-13) with four runs scored, one RBI and two stolen bases to help CofC win the weekend series at UNCW with three straight two-hit games. The West Essex, N.J. native reached base three times in Saturday's 10-3 victory scoring twice and swiping his 13th bag of the season.

 

He added a 2-for-5 effort in Sunday's series-clinching victory with two singles and two runs scored. Sorrentino currently ranks second in the league with a .360 batting average during CAA play and is tied for fifth with 19 RBI.

 

NEXT UP

The Cougars return to the diamond on Tuesday when they make the short trip up I-26 to take on Palmetto State foe Clemson at Segra Park, home of the Columbia Fireflies, in Columbia, S.C. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
