McCants Cited as CAA Pitcher of the Week 

 

RICHMOND VA. – Carli McCants has been chosen as the Colonial Athletic Association Pitcher of the Week after a pair of outstanding performance against UNCW. 

 

The right-hander established a career high with 13 strikeouts and tossed a one-hitter in a 3-1 victory in the series finale on Sunday. She struck out the side on two occasions and eclipsed her previous high when she recorded the final out with the tying run at the plate. 

 

The previous day, McCants allowed only three hits and fanned eight but took a 1-0 loss. In a total of three appearances during the week, she struck out 25, walked only five and allowed just three earned runs. 

 

McCants ranks among the CAA leaders in several categories, including fifth in strikeouts (87), sixth in ERA (2.63) and seventh in innings pitched (98.2) and opponent batting average (.240). 

 

The Cougars are home for five games this week. They host Winthrop in a doubleheader on Tuesday at 3 p.m. and Towson in a CAA series on Saturday and Sunday.
