GOOD, MATHIS COLLECT CAA WEEKLY HONORS

RICHMOND, Va. --- Junior right-hander Ty Good has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Pitcher of the Week and freshman two-way player Cole Mathis has earned CAA Rookie of the Week accolades after leading College of Charleston to a 4-0 record on the road against USC Upstate and Elon last week announced league officials Monday.

Good delivered perhaps his best start as a Cougar on Friday, allowing one earned run on six hits while striking out a career-high 11 batters without surrendering a walk over seven innings in Charleston’s 11-2 win at Elon. After surrendering an unearned run in the first, the junior allowed only two baserunners to get into scoring position until the seventh. Good, who improved to 6-3, fanned multiple batters in five of his seven frames.

Mathis contributed with both his arm and bat in Charleston’s three-game series sweep at Elon. On the mound, the freshman gave up three hits over 4.0 shutout innings and struck out five in two relief appearances. As the Cougars’ DH on Sunday, he delivered a key two-run homer – the first of his collegiate career – in the 6th inning that gave Charleston a three-run lead.
