COUGARS SET FOR FIRST-PLACE CLASH WITH TRIBE

CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The stage is set for a defining series in the race for the Colonial Athletic Association regular season title this weekend as College of Charleston and William & Mary, which are currently tied atop the CAA standings, square off in a crucial three-game set at Patriots Point. First pitch for Friday’s series opener is slated for 6:00 p.m.

Charleston enters the weekend having won three of its last four after sweeping James Madison last weekend. William & Mary also picked up a sweep of its own with a trio of comfortable wins over Towson and has won four of its last five.

SERIES SNAPSHOT
The Cougars lead the all-time series, 20-11, and have won the last five meetings with the Tribe. Charleston won five of the six meetings in last spring’s season series including a sweep in Williamsburg.

Friday | 6:00 pm ET: RHP Ty Good (4-3, 4.75) vs. LHP Zach Tsakounis (4-0, 3.21)
Saturday | 2:00 pm ET: RHP Daniel Brooks (2-2, 5.00) vs. RHP Casey Green (0-3, 3.67)
Sunday | 1:00 pm ET: LHP Connor Campbell (3-0, 2.72) vs. RHP Jack Cone (3-2, 3.55)

LEADING OFF

·         The Cougars collected their second CAA sweep of the season and fourth overall with a sweep of James Madison last weekend. Charleston and William & Mary are currently tied for first in the CAA standings with identical 7-2 league records through three weekends.

·         Charleston's clutch hitting was on full display in the weekend sweep of JMU highlighted by back-to-back walk-off victories on Saturday and Sunday. The Cougars scored 10 of their 23 runs with two outs while batting .382 (13-34) with runners in scoring position.

·         William Privette and Reed Parris have formed a dynamic duo in the Cougar bullpen combining for a 4-0 record, 1.21 ERA and six saves in more than 59 innings of work. Privette enters the weekend ranked fifth in the nation with a 1.06 ERA while Parris sports a WHIP of 0.72 in 25.1 innings across 12 appearances.

·         Graduate student Sam Cochrane has been swinging a red-hot bat over the last 17 games raising his batting average from .148 to .318 in that span. The Ocala, Fla. native drove in a team-high six runs in the sweep of JMU including a walk-off single in last Saturday's 10-9 win.

·          The Cougars have been ruthless with two outs on the scoreboard this season accounting for more than a third (36.4%) of their total run output with two down. Charleston has totaled 72 runs with two outs this season scoring at least two runs with two down in 17 of 32 games thus far.

·         Connor Campbell has been superb at the back end of the weekend rotation entering the week with a 3-0 record with a 2.72 ERA and 31 strikeouts in 39.2 innings of work. The senior southpaw leads the team with three quality starts and is currently eighth in the CAA in ERA while walking only nine batters thus far.

SCOUTING THE TRIBE

·         William & Mary enters the series with a 17-12 overall record and a 7-2 mark in CAA play after sweep Towson last weekend.

·         The Tribe have been plunked 60 times this season a mark which leads the CAA and ranks 14th in the nation.

·         Matt Thomas and Cole Ragone pace William & May with seven and six homers, respectively, while combining for 51 RBI.

·         Ragone leads the Tribe with a .363 batting average followed by Ben Williamson at .333.

·         Friday starter Zach Tsakounis carries a 4-0 record with a 3.21 ERA and 22 strikeouts in 10 appearances.

WEEKEND PROMOTIONS

·         Jackie Robinson Day: Friday is Jackie Robinson Day at Patriots Point. The first 20 season ticket holders and the first 20 CofC students will get a free Charleston hat with a 42 patch on the side. Stop by the hospitality deck in the stadium to pick them up.

·         Cast Iron: The Cast Iron Food Truck<http://www.castiron-foodtruck.com/> will be on site on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. They will be located down the third base line.

·         Sunday: Kids can participate in an egg hunt throughout the game. Eggs will be hidden in public areas of the stadium. Some eggs will have prizes in them and others can be redeemed on the hospitality deck for prizes.
