COUGARS SECURE TWO NATIONALS BERTHS AT SAISA SPRING CHAMPIONSHIPS

 

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. --- Axel Stordahl, Pierce Ornstein and Brandon Geller skippered College of Charleston to a perfect 10-0 record at the SAISA Open Team Race Championships on Saturday to book the first of two tickets to the ICSA National Championships next month in New Orleans. The Cougars also secured a berth in the ICSA Open National Championship with a second-place finish at SAISA Open Fleet Race Championships.

 

The Cougars cruised to victory at the SAISA Open Team Race Championships with a dominating performance on Saturday that included four 1-2-3 finishes in the opening round. Charleston won the regatta by two wins over Miami with a sterling 10-0 record. Stordahl, Ornstein and Geller skippered for the Cougars with Lucy Klempen, Noelle Owen, Anna Sherry and Jack Sutton crewing.

 

Charleston followed with a second-place finish at the SAISA Open Fleet Racing Championships to earn a berth in that national championship as well. The Cougars finished first in A-Division with six points and fourth in B-Division with 12 points. Max Anker skippered Charleston to a trio of top-three finishes in A-Division with Sutton and Owen splitting races at crew. Geller and Kalea Woodard accumulated 12 points in B-Division highlighted by back-to-back seconds in the first two races.

 

The Cougars capped the weekend with an eighth-place performance at the Emily Wick Trophy on Saturday and Sunday in New London, Conn. Emma Tallman skippered Charleston to 87 points and a fourth-place finish in B-Division with Roxanne Snyder and Rowan Schanley crewing. Kiera O’Reardon and Chloe Hudgins accumulated 136 points in A-Division with three top-five finishes – including a win in race six.

 

Charleston will return to the water on Saturday, April 16 in Annapolis, Md. at the Navy Spring Open Intersectional.
