CHARLESTON, S.C. – A pair of long-time rivals meet on Wednesday when the College of Charleston travels to Pepsi Stadium in Greenville for a doubleheader against Furman. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.

The teams have met 76 times with Charleston holding a 39-37 edge. The Cougars and Paladins played every season from 1993 through 2014, many of those games coming as Southern Conference members, and resumed the series in 2018. Since then, the Cougars have won two of three including a doubleheader split at Patriots Point in 2020.

The Cougars are looking to build on a 7-2 win over Drexel in their CAA series finale on Sunday. Jenna Helberg hit a go-ahead two-run homer, and Natalie Windham added a two-run single in a sixth inning rally that gave Tracey Lynch her first conference win as Charleston’s head coach.

Helberg had three extra base hits and drove in four runs, and Windham had four hits and five RBI over the weekend. Helberg raised her average to .312 and is tied for the CAA lead with nine doubles while also pacing the team with three homers and 14 RBI. Jenna Carter is eighth in the conference in average (.364) and on-base percentage (.507).

The Cougars also boast two of the ERA leaders in the CAA. Payton Lemire is seventh at 2.57, one spot ahead of Carli McCants (2.60). McCants is also eighth with 49 strikeouts including a season-high eight in her complete game win over the Dragons.

Furman won one of three against Chattanooga in its SoCon opener last weekend. Emily Bartlett leads the Paladins in average (.352), doubles (8), homers (4) and RBI (17), and Ashley Lykins is batting .306 with 11 steals. Sierra Tufts paces the pitching staff with five wins and 42 strikeouts.
