PLEASANT, S.C. --- Emma Falk and Maria Zweig cruised to a trio of straight set victories to lead the College of Charleston beach volleyball team to wins over UNCW, Erskine and Huntingdon on day one of the CofC Beach Blast on Friday at Creekside Tennis & Swim Club. (Creekside Tennis & Swim Club) Records: Charleston (13-6), UNCW (13-4), Erskine (7-7), Huntingdon (8-14) HOW IT HAPPENED In the morning session, the Cougars and Seahawks split at fours and fives to head into the second wave even at 1-1. Charleston took a 2-1 lead with a win at threes and after a three-set setback at ones, clinched the dual with a 19-21, 21-19, 15-12 victory by Amani Dunston and Sofie Vogel at twos. The Cougars closed out the day with back-to-back sweeps against Erskine and Huntingdon in the final two matches of the afternoon. PAIR OF THE DAY Zweig and Falk pushed their season record to a stellar 13-1 with their fourth straight victory in the sweep of Huntingdon. The duo put the Cougars ahead, 2-1, against UNCW with a 21-19, 21-19 win at threes and cruised to a 21-9, 21-11 victory against Erskine’s threes. They then capped the day with a 21-5, 21-7 win in the second flight against Huntingdon. NOTABLES · Gabi Bailey and Kyra Thompson went 2-0 on the day to push their season record to 13-2. · Amani Dunston and Sofie Vogel posted a pair of wins in the second flight against UNCW and Erskine and are now 4-0 as a duo this season. · Brooke Harris and Molly Russell delivered a 21-9, 21-10 win at fives to set the tone against Huntingdon. · The Cougars have won four in the row for the second time this season.
