COUGARS LOOK TO CARRY MOMEMENTUM INTO MIDWEEK MATCHUP WITH EAGLES

CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The College of Charleston baseball team will look to keep its stellar play going on Tuesday when the Cougars travel to Statesboro, Ga. for a midweek matchup with Georgia Southern. First pitch is slated for 6:00 p.m. at J.I. Clements Stadium.

Charleston enters the week having won four of its last five including a midweek win over No. 2 Texas last Tuesday. The Eagles have won six of their last seven including a series sweep of William & Mary on March 12 and 13.

LEADING OFF

·         The Cougars made a statement last week with an 8-4 win over No. 2 Texas on Tuesday before capping the week in style with a series victory against perennial regional power East Carolina.

·         Sam Cochrane's bat caught fire in a big way last week with the veteran outfielder batting .643 (9-for-14) with two doubles, a triple, a home run and four RBI to earn CAA Player of the Week honors.

·         Charleston's pitching staff has been amongst the CAA's best so far this season entering the week ranked second in both strikeouts per nine innings and strikeout-to-walk ratio. The Cougars are also third in both opposing batting average and ERA.

·         CofC has deployed one of the most balanced offenses in the league thus far with five players driving in at least 10 runs led by JT Marr and Preston Hall with 15 each. The Cougars enter the week having homered in seven straight games.

·         Junior Luke Wood made the most of his return to the lineup on Sunday recording his first three-hit game as a Cougar while driving in four runs with a two-run blast in the third and a two-run single in the third.

·         Connor Campbell has been superb at the back end of the weekend rotation entering the week with a 3-0 record with a 2.49 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 25.1 innings of work. The senior southpaw leads the team with three quality starts and is currently eighth in the CAA in ERA while also holding opponents to a .237 batting average.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES

·         The Eagles enter the week with a 13-7 overall record that includes a midweek win over then-No. 19 Georgia Tech and a midweek split with then-No. 20 Georgia.

·         Georgia Southern is fourth in the nation in sacrifice bunts (17) and is hitting .259 as a team with 34 doubles and 14 home runs.

·         Noah Ledford paces the Eagles with four home runs, 22 RBI and a .600 slugging percentage while batting .338.

·         Noah Searcy and Jarrett Brown are batting .378 and .328, respectively, while Jesse Sherrill leads the team with four stolen bases.

·         Tuesday starter Braden Hays has yet to pitch this season after posting a 2-1 record with a 2.45 ERA and 36 strikeouts in 12 appearances last spring.
