CHARLESTON HEADS NORTH FOR FIRST CAA ROAD SERIES AT HOFSTRA

CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The College of Charleston baseball team travels to Long Island this weekend to resume its CAA schedule with a three-game set against Hofstra. First pitch for Friday’s series opener is slated for 3:00 p.m. at University Field in Hempstead, N.Y.

 

Charleston has won five of its last seven including a series sweep of CAA preseason favorite Northeastern last weekend to open the league campaign with a sterling 3-0 mark. The Pride began conference play with a 2-1 series win at Elon last weekend taking games one and three.

 

PROBABLE PITCHERS

Friday | 3:00 pm ET: RHP Ty Good (3-2, 3.51) vs. RHP Mark Faello (2-1, 2.10)

Saturday | 1:00 pm ET: RHP Daniel Brooks (1-2, 5.33) vs. RHP Tristan Nemjo (0-3, 5.94)

Sunday | 12:00 pm ET: LHP Connor Campbell (3-0, 2.43) vs. RHP Brad Camarda (4-0, 2.90)

 

LEADING OFF

·         The Cougars enter the weekend having won eight of their last 12 including a series sweep of Northeastern to begin CAA play.

·         Junior Trotter Harlan has been a force in the lineup for the Cougars this season entering Tuesday's game leading the team in on-base percentage (.472) while drawing a league-best 24 walks thus far.

·         Sophomore William Privette has been simply superb out of the bullpen so far this season entering the week ranked fifth in the nation with a 0.70 ERA in 25.2 innings of work. The 6-foot-6 right-hander is currently tied for the CAA-lead with four saves.

·         Charleston's pitching staff has been amongst the CAA's best so far this season entering the week ranked second in strikeouts per nine innings, strikeout-to-walk ratio and walks allowed per nine innings. The Cougars are also third in opposing batting average.

·         The Cougars have deployed one of the most balanced offenses in the league thus far with seven players driving in at least 10 runs led by JT Marr, Preston Hall and Trotter Harlan who have combined for 56 of CofC's 132 RBI to date.

·         William Privette, Reed Parris and Cole Mathis have been superb out of the 'pen thus far combining for a 5-1 record, four saves, a 1.74 ERA and .198 batting average against in 57 innings pitched. Privette has been nothing short of spectacular leading the CAA and ranking fourth nationally with a 0.70 ERA in 25.2 innings of work while Reed Parris sports a WHIP of 0.74 in 18 frames.

·         Redshirt freshman Preston Hall delivered several key hits in the weekend sweep of Northeastern en route to capturing his first career CAA Rookie of the Week accolades on Monday. The Gastonia, N.C. homered in back-to-back games on Saturday and Sunday including a go-ahead solo shot in Saturday's 14-9 win. He currently leads the team with six home runs and is tied for second with 18 RBI.

 

SCOUTING THE PRIDE

·         Hofstra carries a 10-9 overall record and a 2-1 mark in CAA play into the weekend following a series win at Elon to open conference action.

·         The Pride come into the weekend ranked 12th in the nation in fielding percentage (.981) and 27th in hits allowed per nine innings (7.64).

·         Brian Morrell paces the offense batting .377 with eight doubles, one home run and 12 RBI thus far while Steven Harrington has accounted for three of the Pride’s 12 homers.

·         Sunday starter Brad Camarda is 4-0 on the season with a 2.90 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 31 innings of work.
