CHARLESTON BEGINS ROAD SWING TUESDAY AT CHARLOTTE

CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The College of Charleston baseball team will head back on the road this week beginning with a midweek trek to Charlotte, N.C. to take on the Charlotte 49ers on Tuesday evening. First pitch is slated for 6:00 p.m. at Hayes Stadium.

 

Charleston has won seven of its last nine after opening CAA play with a series sweep of Northeastern over the weekend. Charlotte enters the week with a 16-7 overall record after taking two of three at No. 18 Old Dominion this past weekend.

 

PROBABLE PITCHERS

LEADING OFF

·         The Cougars enter the week having won eight of their last 11 including a series sweep of Northeastern to begin CAA play.

·         Junior Trotter Harlan has been a force in the lineup for the Cougars this season entering Tuesday's game leading the team in on-base percentage (.485) while drawing a league-best 24 walks thus far.

·         Sophomore William Privette has been simply superb out of the bullpen so far this season entering the week ranked fifth in the nation with a 0.70 ERA in 25.2 innings of work. The 6-foot-6 right-hander is currently tied for the CAA-lead with four saves.

·         Charleston's pitching staff has been amongst the CAA's best so far this season entering the week ranked second in ERA, strikeouts per nine innings and strikeout-to-walk ratio. The Cougars are also third in opposing batting average.

·         The Cougars have deployed one of the most balanced offenses in the league thus far with seven players driving in at least 10 runs led by JT Marr, Preston Hall and Trotter Harlan who have combined for 56 of CofC's 132 RBI to date.

 

 

SCOUTING THE 49ERS

·         Charlotte has won five of its last six including a 12-4 win against Campbell last Tuesday.

·         The 49ers enter the week ranked second nationally in walks (165), fifth in on-base percentage (.439) and 15th in scoring (8.9).

·         Nate Furman leads the 49ers batting .424 with six doubles, 11 stolen bases and a .558 on-base percentage.

·         Austin Knight, Jake Cunningham and Cam Fisher have each clubbed six home runs while combining for 66 RBI.

·         Matt Brooks is 1-0 with a 3.07 ERA and 11 strikeouts in seven appearances – three of them starts – this season.
