TWO COUGAR PAIRS LAND AVCA TOP FLIGHT HONORS



LEXINGTON, Ky. --- Two pairs from the College of Charleston beach volleyball team were recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association in its fourth annual class of AVCA Top Flight award winners announced AVCA officials Thursday.



College of Charleston put together a record-setting season in 2022 establishing a new single-season mark with 22 wins and finishing the campaign with a 22-13 overall record. The Cougars had four pairings reach double-digit wins including a single-season record 23 wins for Gabi Bailey and Kyra Thompson.



Emma Falk and Maria Zweig earned AVCA Top Flight honors in the third flight after posting a 15-2 mark as Charleston’s third pairing this season. The duo won their first nine matches as a pairing including a straight-set victory against Florida Gulf Coast on March 13. They finished the season with a 16-4 overall record with one win in the second flight.



Bailey and Thompson were honored as an AVCA Top Flight pair in the fourth flight following a record-setting season. The duo compiled a 16-3 record in the fourth flight with wins against Florida Gulf Coast and UNCW. They began their partnership with 10 straight wins and also registered a 7-1 mark as the Cougars’ third pairing – including a 4-1 weekend at the ASUN Championship highlighted by a straight-set win against top-seeded Stetson.
