CHARLESTON SWEEPS SPARTANS TO CONCLUDE NON-CONFERENCE PLAY



CHARLESTON, S.C. --- Anna Smith slammed down a match-high 14 kills and Sofie Vogel collected eight kills on 15 swings to lead College of Charleston to a straight-set sweep of UNC Greensboro to wrap up the weekend at the CSU Chucktown Throwdown.



Charleston (5-8) won the match by scores of 25-16, 25-12 and 25-17 combining for a .326 hitting percentage while limiting UNC Greensboro (6-6) to 23 kills and a .033 clip on the attack. The Cougars accumulated 41 kills to go along with eight aces and seven blocks.

Critical Point

After UNCG cut the margin to 15-14 in the first set, Charleston responded with a 10-2 surge sparked by a big swing by Emma Falk to take a 1-0 lead in the match.



Key Cougars



  *   Smith exploded in the second and third sets, putting down six and seven kills, respectively to lead the attack. She finished the day hitting .345 while adding six digs and three blocks.

  *   Vogel delivered one of her best performances of the season hitting .533 with eight kills on 15 attempts without an error to go along with three blocks.

  *   Emma Appleman dished out 23 assists and added four digs.

  *   Claire Campbell finished the afternoon with five kills on eight swings as well as six blocks.

  *   Gabi Bailey chipped in eight kills, five digs and two aces.





Match Notes



  *   Campbell pushed her season hitting percentage up to .444 entering conference play.

  *   The Cougars accumulated an attacking clip above .300 for the third time this season and the first since opening weekend.

  *   Falk and Chandler Manusky both equaled their personal bests with a pair of service aces each.

  *   Charleston took control of the match in the second set hitting .471 as a team with 18 kills in that frame.



Up Next

The Cougars will travel to Wilmington, N.C. next weekend to begin their quest for the program’s fourth CAA Championship taking on UNCW on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. and Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
