CHARLESTON TREKS TO COLUMBIA FOR FINAL WEEKEND OF REGULAR SEASON

CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The College of Charleston beach volleyball team will step on the sand for the final time in the regular season this weekend at South Carolina’s Palmetto Invitational in Columbia, S.C. Charleston will square off with No. 18 South Carolina and No. 14 Georgia State on Friday followed by tilts against Coastal Carolina and No. 20 Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday.



Charleston enters the weekend with an 18-8 overall record after posting a 2-2 mark at Coastal Carolina’s Carolina Challenge on April 8-9. The Cougars feature six pairs with at least seven wins and have won eight of their last 10.



THE OPPONENTS



·         South Carolina carries a 17-8 record on the season and has won six straight including a 5-0 decision against the Cougars last weekend. The Gamecocks are ranked 18th in the nation.



·         Georgia State comes into the weekend ranked 14th in the nation with an 18-11 mark having won four in a row. The Panthers posted a pair of sweeps against Tampa and Chattanooga last weekend at the GSU Digging Duals.



·         Coastal Carolina sports a 17-10 overall record after going 2-2 at its Carolina Challenge last weekend. The Cougars edged the Chanticleers, 3-2, in the final dual of the tournament.



·         Florida Gulf Coast is ranked 20th in the nation with a 20-7 record and has won three of its last five entering the weekend. The Eagles have been victorious in the first two meetings with the Cougars this season.



QUICK SETS



·         Gabi Bailey and Kyra Thompson lead the pack for the Cougars with an 18-3 record this season and are 8-2 in their last 10.



·         Emma Falk and Maria Zwieg are 7-3 in their last 10 matches and carry a 16-4 mark into the weekend. They are 15-2 so far this season in the third flight.



·         Amani Dunston and Sofie Vogel have formed a potent tandem on court two over the last 11 matches entering the weekend with an 8-3 record.



·         The Cougars are two wins away from equaling the single-season record of 20 victories set during the 2019 campaign.
