FOUR COUGARS NET ASUN POSTSEASON HONORS

ATLANTA --- Four Cougars collected postseason honors from the Atlantic Sun Conference led by the duo of Sky Benjamin and Ella Reames earning a spot on the All-ASUN Second Team announced league officials Thursday.

Benjamin and Reames each garner postseason recognition for the first time in their careers while Kyra Thompson and Maria Zweig were both named to the All-Academic Team.

The duo of Benjamin and Reames compiled a 9-6 record this season since being paired together in mid-March, including an 8-6 mark in the top flight. Highlighted by a straight-set victory against No. 14 Georgia State’s No. 1 pairing on April 15, the duo finished the regular season with a 4-2 record against ASUN opponents. They also registered a three-set win against No. 20 Florida Gulf Coast’s ones on April 16 in addition to a three-set victory over UNCW’s ones on March 19.

Thompson has been a standout in the classroom for the Cougars throughout her first three years at the College carrying a 3.89 cumulative grade point average while majoring in exercise science. The Greenville, S.C. native delivers on the court as well entering the ASUN Championship with 34 career dual victories, including 21 this season. She and Gabi Bailey are tied for the team lead with a 21-9 record this season including a sterling 16-3 mark in the fourth flight.

Zweig stars in the classroom as well sporting a perfect 4.00 GPA as an exercise science major. The Carmel, Ind. native is off to a tremendous start in her career as a Cougar having already amassed 32 wins in just two seasons. She enters the weekend with a 17-8 record this spring including a 15-2 mark in the third flight alongside junior Emma Falk.

The fifth-seeded Cougars will open postseason play with two pool play matches on Friday taking on No. 12 Eastern Kentucky at 11:00 a.m. ET followed by a 3:30 p.m. ET matchup with No. 8 Mercer.
