SORRENTINO NAMED COLLEGIATE BASEBALL FRESHMAN ALL-AMERICAN

TUCSON, Ariz. --- College of Charleston freshman outfielder Tyler Sorrentino has been named to the Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-America Team after collecting CAA Co-Rookie of the Year honors and helping the Cougars to their program’s second CAA Regular Season Championship announced Collegiate Baseball officials Wednesday.

Sorrentino is the 12th player in program history to earn Freshman All-America honors from Collegiate Baseball and the first since 2015. The West Essex, N.J. native is one of four representatives from the CAA joining UNCW’s RJ Sales, William & Mary’s Carter Lovasz and Elon’s Shea Sprague.

The two-time CAA Rookie of the Week put together one of the best rookie campaigns in program history this spring starting all but one game in the leadoff spot while batting .284 with 48 runs scored, eight doubles, four triples, a home run and 32 RBI. Sorrentino has showcased game-breaking speed with 15 stolen bases in 18 attempts and equaled the Cougars’ rookie record with his four triples this spring.

He led the Cougars with a .330 batting average in league play while driving in 19 runs and scoring another 23 in 24 games. The speedy outfielder finished the campaign with a .986 fielding percentage in more than 100 chances in center field committing only two errors and registering six outfield assists.
