Cougars Resume CAA Play with Road Trip to Drexel

CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston looks to stay on top of the CAA standings on Saturday when the Cougars travel to Philadelphia to take on Drexel. Kickoff at Vidas Field is set for 1 p.m.

The Cougars are 2-0-1 in the CAA (2-2-2 overall) and tied for first with UNCW with seven points, one more than Elon, Hofstra and William & Mary. The Dragons are tied for sixth with a 1-1-1 league record and are 3-2-3 overall.

Leonardo D’Ambrosio has been one of the hottest scorers in the league with goals in three of the past four games. The redshirt freshman is tied for fourth in the CAA with his three goals and ranks third with nine points.

Chris Elliott is tied with D’Ambrosio for the team lead with three goals and has seven points. Chris Matlashewski picked up his second assist of the season against USC Upstate on Tuesday and is one shy of D’Ambrosio for the team lead.

Olly Marshall has played all 540 minutes and is fifth in the conference with a .731 save percentage and sixth with a 1.17 goals against average.

Drexel is led offensively by Antonio Illuminato with three goals and two assists for eight points. Daniel Nesseler also has three goals, and Kyle Tucker has a team-high three assists. Alessandro Capogna has been the team’s lone keeper and is tied for third in the CAA with a 1.00 goals against average.

The Cougars hold a 4-2-2 lead in the all-time series, but Drexel won last year’s matchup, 2-1, at Patriots Point with Rio Murray scoring the Charleston goal.
