Sophia Brown Enters Record Book at Firetower Project



BOONE, N.C. – College of Charleston sophomore Sophia Brown cracked the school’s record book in the 5K at the Firetower Project on Friday in Boone, N.C.



Brown covered the distance in 18:00.63 to move into ninth place in Cougar history, just one second shy of former teammate Kristen Cherry. Brown finished 10th in a field of 104 runners to lead Charleston for the second time in as many meets this fall.



Five other Cougars were in the Top 40, led by Hannah Wise in 20th with a time of 18:30.44. She was followed by Rhian Purves (31st, 18:54.36), Emily Dorony (36th, 19:00.41), Cayden Crismon (38th, 19:06.63) and Shannon Smith (39th, 19:08.92).



Jack Wedge topped the Cougar men for the second time this season, taking 39th place with an 8K time of 27:12.31. Jackson Reid was four spots back in 27:32.34, and Brock Davee (29:02.48), Dylan McTigue (29:24.29) and Joshua Keifer (29:35.06) rounded out the men’s runners.



Six other Cougar women were in action, led by Andie Harding (19:45.06). The rest of the runners were Grace McGrew (20:10.73), Meike Kalus (20:34.84), Abbey Arnett (20:40.96), Allie Pujol (21:05.42) and Reagan Wells (22:10.86).



Both teams are back in action on October 1 at the Live in Lou Classic in Louisville, Ky.
