CHARLESTON PRIMED FOR BUSY WEEKEND



CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The College of Charleston sailing team has a busy weekend ahead with four regattas on the schedule including the first SAISA championship of the season – the SAISA Men’s and Women’s Singlehanded Championships on Saturday and Sunday in Daytona Beach, Fla.



Charleston’s dinghy team will also compete at the SAISA North Top 6 Invite on Saturday in Atlanta, Ga. while the offshore team will travel to Annapolis, Md. for the Shields Trophy Regatta on Saturday and Sunday.



At the SAISA North Top 6 in Atlanta, freshman Harisson Thomson will skipper A-Division with fellow rookie Marina Dryer at crew. Freshman Zachary Carvajal is slated to helm B-Division with freshman Anna Galli crewing.



The Cougars will send six sailors to the SAISA Singlehanded Championships in Daytona Beach with Rowan Schanley and Tallman representing the College in the women’s championship. Freshman Benjamin Dufor, sophomore Ethan Homberger, and juniors Alex Gonzalez and Lawson Levine will compete for the men’s championship.



Charleston’s offshore team will take part in its first official competition of the season on Saturday and Sunday at the Shields Trophy at Navy. Sam Rosenbaum will be the driver for the Cougars with Sean Groskoph at main, Julianna Corso at primary trim on day one, Megan Fetterley at primary trim on day two, Braden Johnson at secondary trim, Kate Schmiege at pit, Evan Chenard at squirrel, Sims Whalen at mast and Caroline Williams at bow.
