COUGARS REBOUND WITH SWEEP OF CARDINALS



CHARLESTON, S.C. --- Emma Falk and Lexi Wierzbicki each put down a match-high 11 kills to lead College of Charleston to a straight-set sweep of Incarnate Word on Friday evening to open play in the CofC Invitational.



With the win, Charleston (3-4) snaps a four-match skid dating back to the opening weekend. The Cougars won the match by scores of 25-23, 26-24 and 25-14 and held Incarnate Word (1-4) to a .087 hitting percentage on the night. Charleston trailed by as many as six points in the first set and was down 24-22 in the second frame before scoring four straight points to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

Critical Point

With Incarnate Word leading 20-14 in the opening frame, Charleston stormed back with a 10-1 surge to push the Cardinals to set point on back-to-back kills from Wierzbicki. The Cougars would go to take the set, 25-23, and erased a 24-22 deficit with four straight points in set two to snatch a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.



Key Cougars



  *   Emma Falk caught fire in the final two frames with eight of her career-high 11 kills. She would finish the night hitting .409 to go along with three blocks.

  *   Wierzbicki put down six of her match-high 11 kills in the opening frame to move within three kills of 500 as a Cougar.

  *   Sofie Vogel finished with seven kills and two blocks.

  *   Jasmin Goei and Tori Carpenter dished out 20 and 11 assists, respectively.

  *   Sophomore Chandler Manusky totaled 10 digs and added an ace in her second career start.

  *   Avery Alexander collected three kills, two aces, 10 digs and two blocks in her first collegiate start.





Match Notes



  *   The Cougars totaled 13 kills in each set to finish with 39 on the night.

  *   Olivia Mae Van Der Werff tallied three kills and added a block in her first career start.

  *   Freshman Bella Sinacori dropped in two kills on five swings and added two blocks in her first collegiate appearance.



Up Next

The Cougars will conclude the weekend with two matches on Saturday squaring off with Wofford at 12:00 p.m. and Coastal Carolina at 7:00 p.m. in TD Arena.
