CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The College of Charleston baseball team will close out its home slate in CAA play this weekend when the Cougars host Delaware in a pivotal series as Charleston looks to cement its place atop the league standings heading into the regular season’s final month. First pitch for Friday’s series opener is slated for 6:00 p.m.



Charleston has won 10 of its last 12 including nine straight in league play to enter the weekend with a 3.5 game lead over UNCW in the race for the CAA regular season crown. Delaware has dropped three of its last five including two of three to UNCW last weekend at home.



SERIES SNAPSHOT

The Cougars lead the all-time series, 18-6, and have won six of the last seven meetings with the Blue Hens. Charleston and Delaware last met in May of 2019 with the Cougars taking all three games in Newark, Del. on the final weekend of the regular season.



PROBABLE PITCHERS

Friday | 6:00 pm ET: RHP Ty Good (6-3, 3.79) vs. RHP Chris Ludman (4-3, 3.76)

Saturday | 5:00 pm ET: RHP Trey Pooser (3-1, 3.55) vs. RHP Joey Silan (3-3, 4.78)

Sunday | 1:00 pm ET: TBD vs. RHP Wyatt Nelson (2-1, 3.96)



LEADING OFF



·         The Cougars have been rolling over the last two weeks having won 10 of their last 12 including nine straight in CAA action entering the weekend.



·         Junior Ty Good delivered a sensational outing in the series opener against Elon last Friday allowing one earned run and scattering six hits across seven innings to earn his sixth win of the season. The Rock Hill, S.C. native struck out a career-high 11 batters while not surrendering a walk to earn his first career CAA Pitcher of the Week honors.



·         Sophomore William Privette has been virtually untouchable out of the 'pen this season entering the weekend ranked second in the nation in ERA (0.86), ninth in hits allowed per nine innings (5.4), 18th in WHIP (0.91) and 19th in saves (8). The lanky right-hander has struck out 55 batters in only 41.2 innings of work and was named to the NCBWA's Midseason Stopper of the Year Watch List on Wednesday.



·         Junior Trotter Harlan has been a consistent force in the lineup this season reaching base safely in all but four games while leading the team in on-base percentage (.431), RBI (34) and stolen bases (16). He also leads the CAA with 29 walks.



·         The Cougars have been lethal with two outs this season accounting for 36 percent of their total run production with two men down.



·         Freshman Cole Mathis put his two-way talent on full display at Elon last weekend striking out five batters in four shutout innings across two relief appearances while also marking his first collegiate home run with a two-run shot on Sunday. For his efforts, Mathis was named the CAA Rookie of the Week on Monday.



SCOUTING THE BLUE HENS



·         Delaware enters the series with a 22-17 overall record and a 6-6 mark in CAA play after dropping two of three to UNCW last weekend.



·         The Blue Hens are tied with Arizona for the national lead in triples with 21 three-baggers this season.



·         Delaware leads the CAA in team batting average (.298) and rank second in home runs (45).



·         Jake Dunion and Bryce Greenly pace the Blue Hens batting .364 and .342, respectively, while Joseph Carpenter has driven in a team-high 39 runs. JJ Freeman leads the team with nine home runs.



·         Friday starter Chris Ludman is 4-3 on the season with a 3.76 ERA and 54 strikeouts in 64.2 innings of work.

·         Bark at the Park: Saturday’s game will be the final Bark at the Park of the season! Fans are invited to bring their dogs to the game. ·         Sunday: It’s Kids Day at Patriots Point. All kids can get autographs from the team on the field after the game and play catch in the outfield.



·         Sunday Food & Beverage Specials: The Brunch Holiday Food Truck will be on site down the third base line. Mimosas will be available in the concession stand.



·         CofC Bookstore: The College of Charleston bookstore will be on-site for Saturday’s game and will be set-up near the breezeway leading to the main concession stand.
