Cougars Travel to USC Upstate for Non-Conference Tussle

CHARLESTON, S.C. – After going undefeated in three CAA games, College of Charleston steps out of conference on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. game against USC Upstate at County University Soccer Stadium.

The Cougars have defeated Delaware and Monmouth and tied UNCW over the past two weeks and are tied with the Seahawks for the conference lead with seven points. With a 2-0-1 league record, Charleston is undefeated through three games in CAA play for the first time since joining the league in 2013.

Tuesday’s game marks only the second between the Cougars and Spartans. The teams played to a 0-0 draw last year at Patriots Point.

Freshmen Leonardo D’Ambrosio (2 goals, 3 assists) and Chris Elliott (3 goals, 1 assist) have provided a spark to the Cougar attack this season. The duo is tied for second in the CAA with an average of 1.40 points per game.

D’Ambrosio, who was named the CAA Offensive Player of the Week earlier on Monday, is third in the conference with his three assists, and Elliott is tied for third in goals.

Goalkeeper Olly Marshall, yet another Cougar freshman, is third in the conference in goals against average (1.00) and save percentage (.783). He was named the CAA Co-Defensive Player of the Week after a 2-0 shutout of Delaware on September 3.

Upstate (1-4-1) broke into the win column with a 4-2 victory at Wofford on Saturday behind a goal and assist from Peyton Pressley and Xavi Wences. Jeremy Montero and Julian Fernandez also had goals, and Braiden Hall had two assists.

Luca Bulfon has played all 540 minutes in goal with a 1.83 GAA and 21 saves.
